Selling internationally from Scandinavia requires careful configuration of markets, duties, and customs information. These recommendations help you set up Shopify for smooth cross-border sales.

Shopify Markets

Shopify Markets lets you manage multi-country selling from a single store. You can configure pricing, currencies, languages, and domains for each market.
Use Shopify Markets to manage international selling. This gives you centralized control over pricing, currencies, and market-specific settings.
Configure this in Settings > Markets in your Shopify admin. See Shopify Markets in the Shopify documentation.

Duties and import taxes at checkout

For orders shipped outside the EU (or into countries with import duties), customers can be charged duties and import taxes at checkout. This is known as Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) and prevents customers from facing unexpected charges on delivery.
Enable Collect duties and import taxes at checkout to provide a DDP experience. This prevents customers from refusing deliveries due to unexpected customs charges.
See Duties and import taxes in the Shopify documentation.

HS codes

International shipments require Harmonized System (HS) codes for customs declarations. Without HS codes, shipments can be delayed or returned at the border.
Add HS codes to all products you sell internationally. This is required for customs declarations and ensures shipments clear customs without delays.
Add HS codes to products in Products > [Product] > Customs information in your Shopify admin. See HS codes in the Shopify documentation.
Smart Send uses the HS codes from your Shopify products when generating customs documents for international shipments.
