These recommendations help you optimize your Shopify store’s shipping experience for consumer customers in Scandinavia.

Free shipping threshold

Setting a minimum order value for free shipping is one of the most effective ways to increase average order value. Customers will often add items to their cart to qualify for free shipping.
Set a free shipping threshold and display it prominently in your store — especially in the cart. Showing progress toward free shipping (e.g., “Add 79 kr for free shipping”) is a strong incentive.
Configure free shipping rates in Settings > Shipping and delivery in your Shopify admin. Display the threshold in:
  • Announcement bar — visible across your entire store
  • Product pages — helps customers plan purchases
  • Cart page — shows how close they are to qualifying

Shipping method presentation

How you present shipping options at checkout affects conversion. Keep it simple and clear.
  • Use descriptive names customers understand (e.g., “Home delivery” and “Pickup point” rather than carrier-specific names)
  • Show estimated delivery times when available
  • Limit the number of options to avoid decision fatigue — 2-3 choices is typically optimal
  • Order options by popularity or recommendation

Pickup points

Pickup points are a popular delivery method in Scandinavia. Many customers prefer picking up packages at a nearby store or parcel locker on their own schedule.
Enable pickup points as a delivery option. In Scandinavia, a significant share of consumers prefer pickup point delivery over home delivery.
See Pickup points in Shopify for setup instructions with Smart Send.

Tracking and delivery notifications

Keep customers informed about their delivery. Shopify sends order confirmation and shipping confirmation emails automatically, but carrier-level tracking provides more detailed updates.
Ensure tracking numbers are synced back to Shopify so customers can track their packages. Smart Send does this automatically when booking shipments.
Consider enabling SMS notifications through your carrier for delivery day updates, especially for home deliveries where the customer needs to be present.
