Service Update: PostNord temporarily suspended shipments with values below $800 USD to USA and Puerto Rico from August 23rd to October 23rd, 2025, following the Trump administration’s changes to de minimis rules. Service has now resumed with updated customs handling procedures.
De minimis changes
De minimis refers to the threshold value below which imported goods are exempt from customs duties and taxes. Traditionally, shipments to the USA with a value under $800 USD were exempt from customs duties. The only exception is gifts under $100 USD sent by private customers, which remain exempt from duties.Postal Delivered Duties Paid (PDDP)
PostNord has resumed shipping services to the USA and Puerto Rico as of October 23rd, 2025. PostNord offers a PDDP solution (Postal Delivered Duties Paid) where customs duties and fees are handled in advance, so there is no extra charges to the receiver.Costs and payment
- Customs duties and fees are calculated based on the item’s value, country of origin, and tariff code
- A fixed customs clearance fee of $3 USD applies per package
- Duties and fees are calculated after shipping and appear on your invoice in USD
Documentation requirements
All shipments to the USA now require comprehensive customs documentation.Required information

- Customs invoice: Required for commercial shipments
- Country of origin: Must be clearly stated for all items
- 10-digit HS codes: Harmonized System tariff codes for all products
- Values in USD: All item values must be declared in US dollars
