Service Update: PostNord temporarily suspended shipments with values below $800 USD to USA and Puerto Rico from August 23rd to October 23rd, 2025, following the Trump administration’s changes to de minimis rules. Service has now resumed with updated customs handling procedures.
PostNord offers shipping services to the United States and Puerto Rico. Due to recent changes in US customs regulations, there are important updates and requirements you need to know about when shipping to these destinations.

De minimis changes

De minimis refers to the threshold value below which imported goods are exempt from customs duties and taxes. Traditionally, shipments to the USA with a value under $800 USD were exempt from customs duties.
Effective August 29th, 2025, the Trump administration cancelled the de minimis exemption. This means all shipments to the USA, including small, low-value items, are now subject to customs duties and taxes.
The only exception is gifts under $100 USD sent by private customers, which remain exempt from duties.

Postal Delivered Duties Paid (PDDP)

PostNord has resumed shipping services to the USA and Puerto Rico as of October 23rd, 2025. PostNord offers a PDDP solution (Postal Delivered Duties Paid) where customs duties and fees are handled in advance, so there is no extra charges to the receiver.

Costs and payment

  • Customs duties and fees are calculated based on the item’s value, country of origin, and tariff code
  • A fixed customs clearance fee of $3 USD applies per package
  • Duties and fees are calculated after shipping and appear on your invoice in USD
