Add product customs information
To ensure smooth customs processing, you need to provide standardized customs information for each product. This includes the Harmonized System (HS) code and the country of origin. HS codes are internationally recognized numbers that classify traded products. Some countries require country-specific tariff codes, which often extend the standard HS code system. We recommend adding a general 6-digit HS code to all products and region-specific codes to the destinations where this is required.
Add general customs information
Follow the steps below for adding general customs information to a product in Shopify or see Shopify’s documentation on HS codes for more information.1

After adding the general customs information click the three dots next to the Harmonized System (HS) code field and select Add HS codes by country/region.USA: As of August 2025, the United States requires a country-specific HS code following a policy change by the Trump administration. This means that you should add country-specific tariff codes for the US. These codes are often 10 digits and extend on the HS codes.
